Autism Evaluation
At Damar Health, our diagnostic and testing services help identify autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related developmental or behavioral concerns through a thorough, family-centered evaluation process. Each assessment is guided by licensed clinical psychologists who combine professional observation, caregiver input, and standardized testing to ensure accurate and compassionate results. From the first interview to the final report and recommendations, Damar Health partners with families every step of the way to provide clarity, guidance, and next steps for care and support.
The evaluation process begins with a referral to Damar Health, along with background information about the individual who may show characteristics of autism.
A diagnostic interview and informal observation are scheduled with a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), or under their supervision, with the family’s permission.
The interview may take place in person or by video/telehealth.
The psychologist gathers important information by speaking with the family and observing the individual.
If no further evaluation is needed, the psychologist explains this to the family and answers any questions.
If an evaluation is recommended:
The psychologist explains next steps and answers questions.
The psychologist usually requests prior authorization from insurance, and families typically receive a response in about two weeks.
The first session also helps the psychologist plan which assessment tools will be used.
Once authorized, the family schedules the evaluation.
The evaluation is always conducted in person at Damar.
This session lasts about three hours and includes:
Direct testing and interaction with the child
Family or caregiver questionnaires
Additional discussion about symptoms related to autism
After testing:
The psychologist reviews and interprets all results, following the DSM-5-TR criteria from the American Psychiatric Association.
A written report is prepared and sent to the family for review.
The family and psychologist then meet to review the results and recommendations.
This appointment can be in person or virtual.
The psychologist explains the findings, possible diagnosis, and next steps for treatment and support.
